HCI Professors

Nuno Laginha

• ​Nuno Laginha graduated in Multimedia Design and holds a Dual Degree Master in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University. He has recent work experience as a Software Developer, Multimedia Developer, Interface Interaction Designer and IT Professor for the Portuguese Government. Nuno has been developing projects related to “Service life-cycle and experience”, “Mobile Services”, "Smartgrids”, "Energy B2B and B2C services", among others. He is currently working at CGI and in the last years Nuno participated in projects for major portuguese and international companies as a Business Consultant for the Energy & Utilities Business Unit, Transportation and Telco. 

• As Business Consultant his goal is to deliver services/products focused on the Stakeholder's needs taking advantage of his R&D knowledge and innovative techniques from the HCI field. 

• His main skill is to quickly achieve ideas/solutions in a structured/grounded fashion and turn them into tangible artifacts in time to be tested and evaluated. Nuno is currently leading CGI Portugal UX Lab

Anabela de Jesus Gomes

• Anabela de Jesus Gomes (born 1971) concluded her PhD, MSc and BSc (“Licenciatura” - 5 years), all in Informatics Engineering at the University of Coimbra, in 2010, 2000 and 1995, respectively. She is a Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra  (DEIS-IPC) since 1997 where she has been teaching Digital Systems, Operating Systems, Informatics Technology, Computer Architecture, Multimedia, Programming and Human Computer Interaction. She has led various projects and internships as well as under the Erasmus program. 

• She has over 50 scientific articles in prestigious international journals and conferences. She is a member of the Cognitive and Media Systems research group at the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC). 

João Carlos Cunha

• João Carlos Cunha concluded his PhD in Informatics Engineering in 2003 from the University of Coimbra. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Engineering School of the Polytechnic of Coimbra, Department of Informatics and Systems Engineering, where he teaches since 1993. He is the coordinator of the Master in Informatics and Systems, being responsible for several courses in the areas of Software Engineering and Project Management. 

• He was the responsible for the transnational bachelor program, called European Computer Science, within a consortium of universities from France, UK, Germany and Finland.
He is a researcher at the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC) since 1990. He published 1 book chapter and more than 20 papers in international conferences and workshops. He has supervised more than 20 Master and Bachelor thesis, and is currently supervising 2 PhD students.

• He participated in a dozen national and international R&D projects, in the areas of dependable embedded systems and software engineering. He took part of training programs for companies in the areas of software engineering and project management, and participated in the definition of software management processes for small and medium sized companies.

Ana Rita Teixeira

 

Academic Degrees

• Degree in Applied Mathematics 

• Master in electronic engineering and telecommunications

• PhD in Electrotechnical Engineering biomedical signal processing branch 

Development of processing algorithms and biomedical signals classification, in particular using EEG signals - BCI 's ( Brain Computer Interaction ) .
Study and user interaction analysis with equipment based on the cognitive recognition by non-invasive methods (EEG signal). Application and study of alternatives in the HCI area for special populations - accessibility problems.

João Orvalho

• Concluded his PhD in Informatics Engineering in 2001 from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.

• He is currently an Associate Professor at the Coimbra Education School of the Polytechnic of Coimbra and he is a researcher at the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra.

• In the past, he was Dean of the Coimbra Education School of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

• He was Councilman of the City Council of Coimbra , from 18 December 2010 until 27 March 2012.

• He was the leader and the Project Coordinator Smart Coimbra (Coimbra Smart City), a partnership between the City of Coimbra and the University of Coimbra.

• He holds several awards for works of technical and scientific nature and several scientific papers published in international volumes.

• He is the director of the master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

• Has participated in various technical and scientific projects of R & D, national and international, and development to the community, within the framework of Coimbra University and the Polytechnic of Coimbra, having assumed the leadership of some of them.

• He regularly acts as reviewer of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) for Computing Reviews.

• He is entrepreneur.

• Collaborates regularly with the business and industry sector.

• Last month was a jury member of the program The BIG Smart by Vodafone

• Next August will be in Amsterdam to give a lecture at the MIT conference: Scratch2015AMS
